Aaron Judge Injury Update: Yankees Slugger Tore The Ligament In His Toe, Return Is Still Unclear

Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees revealed on Saturday that he has a ruptured ligament in his right big toe and feels discomfort when he walks.

Aaron Judge Injury Update: Yankees Slugger Tore The Ligament In His Toe, Return Is Still Unclear

Aaron Judge’s catch through the right-field wall during the Yankees’ three-game series against the Dodgers in Los Angeles stands out among the many events that took place.

The Dodgers could have had a huge inning coming, but the defending AL MVP raced down the liner and snagged the ball before smashing through the chain link fence and into the bullpen.

There is no fracture, according to manager Aaron Boone, and there is no set date for Judge’s return to the lineup. Judge was given a platelet rich plasma injection and has an official diagnosis of ligament sprain and contusion. The AL MVP for 2022 is spending his second season on the IL at this time.

Judge, in my opinion, is the player most crucial to the success of any team. Despite being healthy and active, Judge generally sets the tone for the team; if he doesn’t hit or score runs, the offense usually falters as a result.

Aaron Judge hasn’t resumed playing baseball, but he appears to be responding to a second platelet-rich plasma injection to his right big toe.

The right big toe of Judge has a contusion and a sprained ligament, according to the Yankees, who put him on the disabled list on June 6. The defending American League MVP’s comeback date is still unknown.

“I’ve got to knock out the rehab stuff. I’ve had different injuries over the years where it’s going to take a while,” Judge said. “It’s not going to be perfect here in a couple of weeks. Once we can manage the pain, we’re going to be in a good spot.”

Judge added: “I don’t think too many people in here have torn a ligament in their toe. If it was a quad, we’d have a better answer. If it’s an oblique or hamstring, we have answers and a timeline for that. With how unique this injury is, and it being my back foot, which I push off of and run off of, it’s a tough spot.”

On Wednesday, Judge engaged in rehabilitation exercises in a pool with the goal of moving on to throwing and mild striking.

Although he did not provide any assurances, manager Aaron Boone stated on Saturday that he anticipates Judge to return this season.

“The reality is, we’re without him right now and we’ve got to find a way to get it done,” Boone said. “We have the people in there to get it done, we just got to do a better job right now of putting pressure on the opposing pitchers and defense.”

Judge’s most recent injury has significantly hurt both the Yankees’ 2023 season as well as his MVP chances.

Before the injury, Judge batted 291/.404/.674, but he no longer leads MLB in home runs or OPS. His 19 home runs now put him six behind Shohei Ohtani and behind five other hitters. Due to a hip issue, Judge has spent time on the IL earlier this season after missing 10 games in late April and early May.

New York, on the other hand, is now third in the AL East with a 41-35 record after going 11-16 in 27 games this season without Judge.
