Aaron Boone Responds To Accusations By Jordan Montgomery

How The Fire Sparked Between Jordan Montgomery And Yankees

At the trade deadline, the St. Louis Cardinals needed starting pitching. Jose Quintana was acquired from the rival Pittsburgh Pirates. But in the end, the Cardinals were able to trade outfielder Harrison Bader to the New York Yankees for Jordan Montgomery.

Since moving to St. Louis, Montgomery has established himself as one of the top pitchers in the league.
After the game, Montgomery was questioned about his development since the Yankees traded him.
Montgomery made some strange remarks about his previous squad, to put it mildly.

According to Montgomery, his four-seam fastball has evolved into a pitch that has propelled his good start with St. Louis despite the Yankees’ wishes for him to use it less frequently.

On the “R2C2” podcast with CC Sabathia and Ryan Ruocco, Montgomery admitted that he “didn’t really have much faith in my heater at the Yankees.” I had been advised that it wasn’t as excellent as my other pitches and that if I got hit, it would be with a curveball or changeup, which isn’t how you should throw.

How Did The Yankees Manager, Boone, Responded

Throwing in a big ballpark in the National League Central, frankly, is a different animal than pitching in the American League East, said Aaron Boone. “Monty had been a really effective pitcher for us, and he’s gone there, and he’s had a nice start to his Cardinal career. When Monty threw his heater, I always enjoyed it. I thought, “Oh, wow, OK,” when I saw that.

Boone continued, though, that he believed Montgomery’s remarks to have been “a little bit overdone.”

In the future, Monty will still be a great pitcher for us, and I sincerely hope he performs well, according to Boone. He has my best wishes, especially for the National League.

Both the Yankees and Cardinals appear to be headed for division titles, and if they both succeed in the postseason, Boone might be seeing Montgomery once more by the end of October.
