Aaron Boone Opines Mercy Rule Can Fix Many Other Rules

In recent years, there have been a number of changes that have come into Major League Baseball, making things a little more complicated for a lot of people. However, these rules have been implemented in order to make the game more competitive and ensure that the battle between the batters and the pitchers gets more intense with time. This is one of the reasons for the MLB governing body to introduce a number of new rules for the players and make the competition even more interesting for all the teams participating and their fans. Despite the initiatives taken by the MLB governing body, there are a number of unnamed rules in Major League Baseball that have made things a little confusing for the different teams participating in the tournament. A number of experts and coaches have voiced their concern over this and one of them is the manager of the New York Yankees, Aaron Boone. The former Major League Baseball player is currently in charge of the Yankees and has ensured that there should be a shift in the rules, which can lead to the solution of these problems to a great extent.

Boone has proposed the introduction of a mercy rule in the game so as to ensure that the other rules don’t complicate baseball and both the players and the fans can enjoy it to a great extent. Boone, however, has not made any comments on how the idea should work or insist on the implementation of the mercy rule. Instead, he has said that he wants the various teams and the governing body of MLB to come together and discuss it to make the game more interesting by the eradication and rectification of a number of other rules in the best possible manner.

He said, “I’m still not saying I’m for it; I’m just saying it’s worth discussing. Because then you don’t have to worry about, ‘I’m 6 runs up, am I allowed to steal? Is this gonna make this guy mad?’ No, we’re just playing to get to that point.” Boone’s comments came in the context of the current criticism that the Chicago White Sox player Yermin Mercedes has had to face for hitting a home run on a 3-0 pitch from a Minnesota Twins position player, Willians Austidillo. White Sox manager Tony La Russa, however, favoured his player and said that what he did was entirely right.

Speaking about the incident, La Russa said in a recent interview, “You think you need more [runs] to win, you keep pushing. If you think you have enough, respect the game and opposition. Sportsmanship.” He also added, “If you’re going to tell me that sportsmanship and respect for the game of baseball and respect for your opponent is not an important priority, then I can’t disagree with you more.” Now it is to be seen whether the suggestion given by the Yankees manager Aaron Boone will be taken into consideration by the MLB association or not.
