A.J. Brown Puts Pressure On Eagles Amid Jalen Hurts Contract Rumors: ‘If you don’t pay him, just ship me off’

Wide receiver A.J. Brown, one of Hurts’ key colleagues, is one of the player’s strongest supporters. During an interview on the Raw Room podcast, Brown made it clear what he thought about these discussions and confronted the team’s general manager, Howie Roseman, directly.

There is no doubt that Jalen Hurts has particular value to the Philadelphia Eagles; the challenge and top goal for the NFC champions this summer is to capitalise on that worth. There is already pressure to get a renewal as the quarterback enters the last year of his rookie deal.

A.J. Brown Puts Pressure On Eagles Amid Jalen Hurts Contract Rumors: ‘If you don’t pay him, just ship me off’

“I love Philly,” Brown said on Monday’s episode of the “Raw Room” podcast. “And what I’m about to say: You do not pay this man, just ship me off wherever he finna go.”

Hurts was second in the season’s MVP vote and put on a display in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl 2023 comeback against the Patriots. He will earn $4.3 million in the upcoming season, while Spotrac estimates his market worth to be $44.2 million.

Brown urged club general manager Howie Roseman to dip into the organization’s coffers and maintain the third-highest scoring offence in the NFL intact, starting with the 24-year-old quarterback.

“Listen, so you’re talking about pressure? Howie, get it done,” he said.

During the offseason, it was Roseman who made the move to trade for Brown, who had shined in the past with the Tennessee Titans, where he played for three seasons after being a second-round pick (#51 overall) out of Ole Miss.

In the end, Brown agreed to a four-year, $100 million deal with Philadelphia, making him one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL. All things considered, the early results have been favourable.

“I’m definitely going to do everything in my power to play with Jalen as I can, him and DeVonta [Smith],” Brown said.

Brown had a crucial role in the Hurts’ development and Philadelphia’s qualifying for Super Bowl LVII, where they ultimately lost to the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 38-35. This was Brown’s first season with the Eagles.

As he was selected for his second Pro Bowl in 2022, Brown set new personal records for catches (88), receiving yards (1,496), and touchdowns (11). His connection with Hurts will be one of the most important elements in trying to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the second time in team history.
