Tim Walz Influences Former Student’s Presidential Candidate Pick

Tim Walz, former Minnesota high school athletics coach has changed one of his former players’ minds about the upcoming Presidential election.

Walz who was recently announced as Kamala Harris’ Vice President choice earlier this week was a football coach at the Mankato West High School in Mankato, MN for several years in the ‘90s.

On Wednesday, TMZ talked with one of Walz’s former players, Dan Clement, and asked him about his experiences as a teenager with Walz. Dan said that Walz was so impactful that his presidential candidate pick went from undecided to the Harris/Walz Democratic ticket for the upcoming Presidential Election in November 2024.

Dan also said that Walz treated him well even though he was a troubled teenager by supporting him and getting him on the right track to succeed and improve instead of ignoring him.

He also mentioned that Walz cared about every player on the team, which he believes will translate into Walz’s leadership as a VP in making every American feel cared for and heard about if he and Kamala win the election.

This isn’t the first time Walz has been complemented by someone in his past after being chosen for VP candidacy, as many of his other ex-students have also spoken up, complimenting him about how great he is as a person.

Tim Walz was also a teacher at the same high school he coached at.

“He was probably one of the most well-liked teachers in the school while he taught there,” said Katie Heintz who had Walz as a high school teacher her junior year.

She also said that his lectures on history and the government are very memorable. “He really taught both sides of everything,” she commented. “He wasn’t pushy about, you know, right or left or whatever.”

Walz’s wife, Gwen Walz also taught at the same high school, and Tracy Frederick Corcoran had both of them as teachers.

“Between Tim and Gwen, those were two people in the high school that were always there for students,” she said. “Both Tim and Gwen had this magic of helping you see possibilities and potential in yourself that maybe you didn’t actually know was there.”

One of his other students from his geography class also praised him saying he was the ultimate role model, fighting for inclusivity, as he stood up for his gay students against those who were homophobic.
