Amid sexual assault claims, Andy Ruiz’s ex granted permanent restraining order for her safety

Andy Ruiz, the former world heavyweight champion boxer, is the subject of a permanent restraining order against his ex-girlfriend Julia Lemus, who has accused him of sexual assault. Lemus had been requesting protection since April of last year when the injunction was obtained earlier this month.

TMZ reports that Lemus claims Ruiz intimidated, abused, and sexually assaulted her during their relationship. In addition, Ruiz’s ex-wife says that when she voiced uneasiness with a recent weapons purchase he made, he aimed an AK-47 at her face the previous year.

Ruiz and Lemus started dating in 2016. Instances where Ruiz allegedly physically mistreated Lemus—grabbing and pushing her—are disclosed in the court order.

Lemus added that Ruiz would “jokingly” punch her arms and legs, bruising her in the process. Additionally, she claims that Ruiz forced himself on her several times last year, sexually abusing her.

After these accusations became public, Lemus and Ruiz took part in a court battle, testifying before a judge alongside witnesses, and were first awarded a temporary restraining order.

On April 8, the judge, Sharon L. Kalemkiarian, made a decision in favor of Lemus and issued a restraining order that is valid for three years and can be extended before it expires in April 2027.

According to evidence submitted, Ruiz’s “aggressive, demeaning, and controlling behavior” has Lemus “in fear,” as Judge Kalemkiarian remarked in court documents.

The judge upheld the allegations that Ruiz had abused Lemus, disturbed her tranquility, and used coercion to control every aspect of their relationship.

According to the conditions of the restraining order, Ruiz must keep a minimum of 100 yards between herself and Lemus as well as her home, place of employment, and car.

Ruiz will also have to follow a 12-week anger management course and not be allowed to own firearms.

Ruiz has not officially commented on the story in light of these events. A video with his new partner, Mayeli Alonso, revealing her pregnancy was posted on social media in March, which was his most recent post.

Lemus was awarded sole custody of the couple’s two children by Judge Kalemkiarian, with Ruiz only being permitted supervised visits, in addition to the restraining order.

September 20, 2022, saw Ruiz prevail against Luis Ortiz in his final professional bout.
