Due in part to salary cap constraints, the Kraken tried to trade Geekie’s restricted free-agent rights after the 2022–2023 season, but when a deal fell through, the team declined to make Geekie a qualifying offer, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent.
The Boston Bruins offered him a two-year, $4 million deal on July 1, 2023, the first day of free agency. Being a player that could be used anywhere in the lineup, Geekie was able to settle into a comfortable role with the Bruins.
