But after the clocks hit zeroes on Monday night in Albany, it was a pleasant exchange between Clark, LSU coach Kim Mulkey, and with Reese.
In the handshake line, Reese, 21, and Clark, 22, had a hug. ESPN’s Ryan Ruocco, who called the game with Basketball Hall of Famer Rebecca Lobo, said that there was a quiet moment.
Following the game, Reese revealed the words she and Clark had exchanged.
“She just told me, ‘Continue to be a great player,’” Reese said in a postgame press conference, during which she became emotional while discussing the scrutiny she’s endured. “And I told her, ‘Continue to be a great player, as well, and keep elevating the game and go win it.’”

Since LSU defeated Iowa 102-85 in the previous year’s championship game, Reese and Clark have persisted in their claims that they are not at odds.
In the 2023 NCAA Women’s Championship game, Reese made the iconic “you can’t see me” move by waving her hand in front of Clark’s face. This helped the Tigers defeat the Hawkeyes.
Due to her theatrics and unrepentant attitude, Reese attracted national criticism and attention; nonetheless, Clark stood up for her in the aftermath.
