Edwards related the tale, saying that after working out, he heard some scuffling over “someone playing some music too loud” and went into the locker room. Before he knew the situation worsened, he made the decision to keep his mouth shut.
“I walk into the locker room after work, and basically, I hear about four rows behind me arguing about music and how it was being played too loud,” he told Local 4 WDIV Detroit. “So I’m not paying attention, and I was just minding my business.

“The noise escalates, and then you can hear some pushing and shoving, so you know what fighting sounds like. But once I hear a thud, that’s when I got up and turned around.”
“He grabs the back of the victim’s head by the hair and he was about to slam it down on the counter,” the Wolverines’ all-time leading receiver recalled. “I grabbed him, subdued him.”

“I didn’t know it was that serious,” Edwards said. “I mean, the victim probably had a serious concussion by nature. But it wasn’t until I talked to detective Jacobs down in Farmington who told me that if I didn’t step in [he could have died]. But at the end of the day, that’s what you do.”
Both the victim’s and the accused attacker’s names are not publicly known. Following the incident, police claimed the 25-year-old male fled the YMCA and nearby schools were put on lockdown. The elder guy and Edwards, who intervened to break up the altercation, were both attacked by the suspect before he was taken into custody.

The attack victim, who is still in the hospital and is anticipated to heal from his wounds, is someone Edwards wishes to meet.
With 3,613 receiving yards throughout his four years on the team, All-American and 2004 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Edwards still holds the record for receiving yards for the Wolverines. During his senior year, he recorded a career-high 1,391 receiving yards and caught 15 of his 39 career touchdowns.
The Cleveland Browns selected Edwards third overall in the draft; over his five seasons there, he amassed 3,697 yards and 28 touchdowns.
