Candace Parker Stands By Her Opinions On Knicks’ Jalen Brunson
The New York Knicks, led by Jalen Brunson, are exerting every effort to establish their legitimacy. Nevertheless, it appears like Candace Parker lacks faith in this team, regardless of their performance. With a record of 33-21, the Knicks are now ranked fourth in the Eastern Conference. With an average of 27.5 points, 6.5 assists, and a three-point shooting percentage of nearly 40% on 6.5 attempts per game, Brunson has undoubtedly been the greatest point guard in the Eastern Conference.
Candace Parker Stands By Her Opinions On Knicks’ Jalen Brunson
The two-time WNBA MVP and TNT analyst defended her views on Tuesday, saying that it was “no slight on Brunson” to imply that it’s hard for an NBA team to win a championship with a smaller guard as its star player. She also thought that Brunson didn’t perform as well against Miami in the second round of the playoffs last spring as he had against Cleveland in the first round.
Knicks supporters, who noted that Brunson’s per-game average increased from 24.0 points and 4.8 assists against the Cavaliers to 31.0 and 6.3 in their second-round defeat to the Heat, had sent Parker a plethora of angry responses on social media.
Candace Parker says the Miami Heat ‘picked on’ Jalen Brunson in the playoffs
“The second round, especially on the defensive end, Miami picked on him a great deal. And Jimmy Butler was, in fact, the best player on the court. And my thing was basically it was no slight on Jalen… pic.twitter.com/PcUiUi5zwb

“Well, I feel like, first of all, I love Knicks fans … and I get it,” Parker said Tuesday on a Zoom call for TNT ahead of this weekend’s All-Star Game. “What I was alluding to was the fact that in the first round of the playoffs, he was the best player on the court against Donovan Mitchell. He was the best player on the court.
“And the second round, especially on the defensive end, Miami picked on him a great deal. And Jimmy Butler was, in fact, the best player on the court. And my thing was basically it was no slight on Jalen Brunson. I think he makes everybody better around him. I think he makes winning plays.”

Even if Jimmy Butler was among the top basketball players in the postseason, Brunson’s accomplishments still stand. The Knicks’ loss in that series against the Miami Heat was more likely caused by Julius Randle’s poor efficiency, which saw him average 18.8 points per game, than by the 2023–24 All-Star.
In six games versus the Heat, Brunson averaged 31 points, 6.3 assists, and 5.5 rebounds. Even though the Knicks lost, that series is still really good in every way.
