Warriors Tried Their Best To Bring In LeBron James During NBA Trade Deadline

The Golden State Warriors attempted to negotiate a significant trade that eventually fell through, but there weren’t many pyrotechnics during this year’s NBA trade deadline. That significant move? In exchange for LeBron James.

Warriors Tried Their Best To Bring In LeBron James During NBA Trade Deadline

Before the trade deadline, the struggling Warriors reportedly phoned the Los Angeles Lakers to see if James would be interested in a deal that would link him with rival and generational great Stephen Curry. This information comes from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne. James and the Lakers have no interest in each other.

According to the source, Warriors owner Joe Lacob spoke with Lakers owner Jeanie Buss to find out if James intended to leave Los Angeles based on his cryptic signals throughout the Lakers’ troubles leading up to the trade deadline.

James may play one more season in purple and gold since he has a player option until 2024–25.

In order to find out more about James’ ideas, Buss advised Lacob to get in touch with James’ agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, even though the Lakers had “no desire” to move the four-time MVP.

To take a shot, the circumstances had to be ideal, and the Warriors believed they had. They are now in 10th position in the West and are in danger of being eliminated from the Play-In Tournament with a couple more losses. The Lakers, who are now one slot ahead of them in ninth place, have also been struggling.

Furthermore, James has shown signs of being irritated with the Lakers in his attempt to win an NBA championship at the age of 39.

Spurred by Warriors player Draymond Green’s encouragement, sources claimed that Golden State owner Joe Lacob contacted Lakers owner Jeanie Buss to see whether James’s seeming public dissatisfaction could be seen as a potential trade possibility.

According to the story, Paul told Lacob and Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. that James had “no interest” in being traded and preferred to stay with the Lakers.

Rob Pelinka, general manager of the Lakers, allegedly informed the Warriors that he was opposed to trading James.

In an effort to persuade James to sign with the Warriors as they try to make a push — maybe their final one — with the aging core of Curry, Green, and failing shooter Klay Thompson, Draymond Green reportedly joined the recruitment efforts, according to ESPN.

James has a $51.4 million player option remaining on his deal for 2024–2025; the Warriors may decide to pursue this again in the offseason. James would probably reject that option and re-sign with the Lakers on a new contract that would enable him to get an annual rise if he decides to rejoin the team. James is still intent on joining the Lakers in the summer.
