Post Lions’ Loss Tom Brady Calls Out Coach Dan Campbell’s Questionable Calls

Tom Brady is perhaps the greatest NFL player of all time when it comes to understanding what it takes to win a Super Bowl, therefore his opinions are important when assessing some of the choices made by Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell.

Post Lions’ Loss Tom Brady Calls Out Coach Dan Campbell’s Questionable Calls

The Dallas Cowboys know all too well how dangerous Dan Campbell’s “go-for-it” mentality can be; in a Detroit Lions game late in the season, Campbell made the stupid choice to attempt three consecutive 2-point conversions at AT&T Stadium.

It was Campbell again in the NFC Championship Game.

Early on, Dan Campbell made a conscious effort to be aggressive in his decisions, hoping to extend the Lions’ advantage. However, he was unsuccessful and allowed San Francisco to recover.

Detroit led 24–7 in the half, but let up 27 consecutive points to lose their 17-point lead.

“They’ve been aggressive all year,” Brady said when discussing Detroit’s 34-31 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game during an appearance on his Let’s Go! podcast. “You know obviously, when you’re aggressive and it doesn’t work, it comes back to bite you. It came back to bite them yesterday. Again, I would’ve taken the points.

“I’ve been in those situations. I look at them and say, okay, this is the opportunity to continue to keep the pressure on the 49ers to make great plays and you’re in a great position.”

The Lions ran the ball at the 1 with 65 seconds left. They wasted a timeout, missed the end zone, and then scored a touchdown on fourth down. By doing that, they eliminated their opportunity to recover the onside kick and force a 49ers punt.

“The handoff there late in the game, that was the one I didn’t understand,” Brady said. “Unless you saw some incredible look to walk the ball in, you just can’t take the chance that you’re gonna be stopped short and keep the clock running. You just can’t get the ball back.

“So that was the one I just said, ‘I don’t know what they’re doing.’ I thought it was just a flat-out error.”

Speaking on his Let’s Go! podcast, Brady is getting ready for his role as lead commentator on FOX Sports next year as the retired GOAT. He is aware that there are no hard-and-fast rules in this situation. A coach may also need to make snap judgments at times.

“Well, the whole team’s responsible,” Brady shared. “I’ll say it’s ultimately a team sport and the coach makes these decisions and you gotta go execute. My opinion differed on all those plays, too.”

After building a 24-7 lead at halftime and watching it evaporate after the break, the Lions and their supporters will be reflecting on what could have been throughout the offseason.

San Francisco will now play the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl with the chance to win.

Does Dan Campbell have a Super Bowl ring?

Because of these two instances, Campbell has never had the joy of winning a Super Bowl.

What’s Dan Campbell’s salary?

Dan’s annual compensation is reportedly about $4 million, despite the fact that NFL coaching earnings aren’t made public the same way that player salaries are. Dan signed a six-year contract with the team in the middle of 2021.
