Why Are Similarities Drawn Between Quarterback Caleb Williams & Patrick Mahomes?
Caleb Williams, the quarterback for USC, is the finest player in college football, right? If you ask Colin Cowherd, that makes complete sense. It’s not even that close.
Why Are Similarities Drawn Between Quarterback Caleb Williams & Patrick Mahomes?
Prior to the 2023 season, the excitement around the Trojans’ Heisman Trophy winner is genuine, to the point that the 21-year-old signal-caller is being compared to two-time Super Bowl champion and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner has been in the news lately, and the excitement has only grown when a recent viral video compared Williams to Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes.

The fascinating side-by-side video that contrasts Williams with Mahomes has gone viral online. The Chicago Bears, who now own the coveted No. 1 position, are keeping a close eye on the USC quarterback, who is largely considered the front-runner for the first overall choice.
But if General Manager Ryan Poles isn’t quite sold on Williams’ potential and would rather remain with Justin Fields, a trade might be imminent.
Last season, Williams amassed 52 total touchdowns (42 passing, 10 running) and passed for 4,537 yards. Cowherd thinks that Williams’s Mahomes-like accuracy and vision are at an elite level.

“Mahomes — every open receiver he hits,” Cowherd said. “Caleb is really good on the easy stuff. That’s very much a Mahomes trick or pedigree.
Lincoln Riley, the head coach of USC, believes that fans should keep in mind that Williams still has a long way to go before he can compete with Mahomes.
“I have to remind people that Caleb didn’t play his senior year of high school and only half the year his first year at Oklahoma,” Riley stated. “Obviously, [Mahomes] is the best quarterback in the game and that’s a flattering comparison, but Caleb’s got a long way to go to get to that.”

Williams is attempting to concentrate on his game rather than the hype, even though he appreciates what others are saying about him.
“Mahomes has been the best guy in the league basically since he got in the league,” Williams stated. “He’s been playing at the highest level. I just say — respect. The man [has] got two Super Bowls under his belt, and I’ve got not even one national championship.
Having won two MVP awards, led Kansas City to six straight AFC Championship Games, three Super Bowl tries, and two Lombardi Trophies, Patrick Mahomes has established himself as an icon of brilliance. Everyone is now wondering if Caleb Williams can achieve the same degree of success in the NFL.
