Fans Raise Charity Money As Lions Center Frank Ragnow Plays Through Injuries

During his team’s victory over the Buccaneers on Sunday, Lions center Frank Ragnow didn’t let a pair of excruciating injuries stop him from performing his job. In appreciation of his bravery, supporters of the club sent tens of thousands of dollars to his charity.

In the NFL, centres often only get considerable attention to themselves in two situations: when they make a critical snap or when they are Jason Kelce.

Even though Ragnow had a sprained ankle and knee from the Buccaneers during the divisional playoff game, he persevered to help Detroit secure a trip to the NFC Championship. Ragnow is a good offensive lineman.

Ragnow gave himself a gut check and would not back down when it came time to battle like a total dog in the trenches. Detroit defeated the Bucs 31–23 in the end.

Who knows what may have occurred in the event that Ragnow had failed. He pushed through the agony, the Lions will now play the 49ers for a trip to the Super Bowl and supporters are showing their thanks.

More than $20,000 in donations were sent to the mainstay’s foundation by Lions supporters in gratitude for his courageous effort. In addition, Ragnow praised Tyrell Crosby, a former teammate of his, for posting the link during the game.

After witnessing the center wince in agony as he played through the pain without pausing during the broadcast, Crosby tweeted a link to the “Rags Remembered Foundation” with the following message:

“Dear city of Detroit, you see how hard Frank is pushing through. Go show his foundation some love.”

Numerous admirers responded to the tweet with screenshots of their receipts for little and large gifts to the foundation, demonstrating how well-received it was.

“Yeah, ‘Big Cros,’ that was really nice of him,” Ragnow said. “I had talked to someone with the foundation yesterday and it was over $20,000.

“Hats off to Lions fans. Like — that’s completely unnecessary but so, so special. And it just speaks to how great this community is and how supportive these fans are. Again, it’s been a fun ride.”

The center was there for all 73 offensive plays that the Lions ran in their 31-23 victory on Sunday, which secured their spot in the NFC Championship Game against the 49ers.

That number may not seem noteworthy on its own, but it is noteworthy in light of the fact that he had to spend a large portion of the game tending to his injured ankle and knee as a result of the setbacks he sustained during the game.

The center’s late father, Jon Ragnow, passed away suddenly after having a heart attack during one of his games while at Arkansas. In his honor, the “Rags Remembered” organization was established. Ragnow suffered from PTSD as a result, which persisted until his first season in Detroit.

Through outdoor-based activities, Ragnow’s charity provides assistance to children and their families who have lost parents or other loved ones. A shared love of the great outdoors united the family, and Ragnow has carried that affinity through to his foundation.

Whether it’s college or NFL football, supporters have a unique bond with their teams. In my opinion, the bond is greater at the collegiate level because students attend those institutions, pay tuition, and make donations to the sports department. It’s difficult to top that sort of relationship.

The Bills Mafia has contributed almost $100,000 to a charity associated with kicker Tyler Bass, who was the recipient of the outpouring of support following his unsuccessful field goal, proving that Lions supporters are not the only ones who are giving back this week.

“It’s been an incredible year. It’s been awesome,” Ragnow said. “To get that recognition, again, like I kinda said of the Walter Payton Man of the Year thing, there are so many good people in our locker room. You look around our locker room, you see all my teammates doing great things. And then you look broader around these league, to be mentioned some of these guys and the impact they’re making. It’s pretty cool. It’s special and I’m honored.

“And it’s huge for my foundation, Rags Remembered, I just think it’s — We’re just starting this thing and I just think it’s going to be a huge springboard into something even more special in the future to be able to help out a lot of families.”
