NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes plays quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs in American football. He attended Texas Tech University for his collegiate baseball and football careers.

His father, Pat Mahomes, was a pitcher in the Major League Baseball. He gave up baseball after his sophomore year in order to concentrate only on football.

He led all NCAA Division I FBS players in several categories during his junior year, including total touchdowns (53), passing yards (5,052), and passing yards. The Kansas City Chiefs selected him with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

During his debut campaign, Mahomes covered for Alex Smith. After Smith was traded by the Chiefs to the Washington Redskins, he was declared the starting quarterback in 2018.

Mahomes completed the season with 5,097 yards, 50 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in his passing game. In both college and the NFL, he became the only quarterback in history to throw for over 5,000 yards in a single season.

He became the first player in NFL history to throw for 50 passing touchdowns and 5,000 yards in one season, together with Peyton Manning.

He was selected to the Pro Bowl, named to the first team of the Pro Bowl, and awarded NFL Offensive Player of the Year and NFL Most Valuable Player for his efforts in his debut season as a starter. Only Mahomes, a black quarterback, has won the MVP award from the Associated Press.
