Midseason Wooden Award Nominees Unveiled: Angel Reese, Paige Bueckers, and Caitlin Clark Are Leading The Race

Highlighting some of the most remarkable players in NCAA women’s basketball, the John R. Wooden Award midseason top 25 list was revealed on Wednesday.

Paige Bueckers, Angel Reese, and Caitlin Clark are three athletes who are nominated to consistently make news for their amazing feats on the court every week.

The Wooden Award winner was revealed on April 12.

Clark(2023) and Bueckers(2021), two past national players of the year, highlight their outstanding backgrounds.

With her impressive skills on the court, Reese, the 2023 Final Four Most Outstanding Player, joins this formidable trio.

Three freshmen who perform exceptionally well and lock down spots in the top 25 add even more suspense to the event.

Three female college basketball players who show promise include JuJu Watkins, Hannah Hidalgo, and Mikaylah Williams.

With Reese, Williams, and Aneesah Morrow among its three midseason players, LSU, the reigning national champion, is the only team with this distinction.

Virginia Tech, UConn, UCLA, Ohio State, and South Carolina are among the other schools putting on impressive displays with numerous players.

The Wooden Award was founded in 1976.

The competition is still strong even though several players are sidelined indefinitely due to injury, such as Rori Harmon, who suffered an ACL tear that ended the season, and Sedona Prince.

Later in February, the midseason list will be whittled down to 20 players, and a final ballot of 15 will be unveiled later that same month.

The 10-player All-American Team will be selected by voters as the Wooden Award journey continues, and the winner will be revealed later in the spring.

The prize was established in 1976 and has a rich history that includes past winners like Tim Duncan, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Caitlin Clark, and Zach Edey.

Above and above individual honors, the John R. Wooden Award Program partners with Special Olympics Southern California and makes a substantial contribution to university scholarship funds, exemplifying the best of both worlds in college basketball: accomplishment and generosity.

On April 12, 2024, the Wooden Award Men’s and Women’s Players of the Year will be given out along with the Legends of Coaching Award, which will be given by Principal to University of Kentucky coach John Calipari.
