Kobe played for the Los Angeles Lakers throughout his entire playing career, winning five NBA titles at Crypto.com Arena (previously Staples Center).

In Washington’s 82-81 defeat against Archbishop Riordan (San Francisco), the sophomore had 33 points at the end of the game, matching the uniform his uncle had worn in his final year at Lower Merion (Ardmore, Pa.).

Many basketball players, both young and old, have adopted Bryant’s “Mamba” mindset, and his legacy appears to last forever.

For his last year of high school, Bryant switched from wearing No. 24 to No. 33 in remembrance of his father Joe, who had worn that number at John Bartram (Philadelphia, Pa.) prior to Bryant’s 606-game NBA career from 1975 to 1983.

Washington stated “it means a lot playing in the house he built and playing where he played” following the game.

Standing six feet four inches tall, Washington is a student at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. Not only does he have a promising future in basketball, but he is also a very skilled football player.

When they first contacted us to play here, we didn’t want to pass that up,’ he said. ‘We weren’t thinking about Jett, but it’s an added bonus for him to get a chance to come back here where his uncle played and is such a big figure in Los Angeles. It’s an amazing thing.’

Bryant, his daughter Gigi, 13, six friends, and a pilot perished in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, in January 2020.

Bryant helped the Lakers win five championship rings over his whole NBA career by playing at Crypto.com Arena, previously the Staples Center.

But Washington, a sophomore standout in two sports at Bishop Gorman, might not follow in his uncle’s footsteps.

In Nevada, Washington is thought to be the best football prospect for the Class of 2026. Eight proposals have been made to him; Georgia and Washington are among them.

Every sport seems to run in Washington’s family. Sharia Washington, his mother, played volleyball for Temple and was an all-conference player.

Before signing with the New England Patriots in the 1994 NFL Draft, his father, Jerrod Washington, led the Virginia Cavaliers in running as a senior.
