Although Mendenhall’s post on X was made a few hours after he made his comments on the criticism of head coach Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers, it was unclear to whom he was specifically directing his ire.

“I’m sick of average white guys commenting on football,” he wrote. “Y’all not even good at football. Can we please replace the Pro Bowl with an All-Black vs. All-White Bowl so these cats can stop trying to teach me who’s good at football? I’m better than ur (sic) goat.”

Former Houston Texans star J.J. Watt joked about what an “All-Black vs. All-White bowl” would look like.

“We’d get cooked at a corner, not gonna lie,” Watt wrote. “Nobody on our squad is covering Tyreek (Hill).”

“I don’t understand how you can talk about Tomlin’s playoff record, without acknowledging that Kenny Pickett has only played one year,” he said. “Who was the QB for all those playoff loses?!! Literally all of them. Make up your minds. How you arbitrarily separate Mike & Ben in de (sic) W/L column?”

Before going pro, Mendenhall was an exceptional running back at Illinois. From 2008 to 2012, he was a member of the Steelers, and he ended his career in Arizona.

Given his history of making contentious statements on social media, some have questioned the motivation behind Mendenhall’s statement.

The notion sent unquestionable shockwaves across social media, even if it’s still unclear if it was intended as a thought exercise or as a real proposal.

Mendenhall’s suggestion for racial segregation at football games is criticized for being offensive and polarising.
