Coach Matt Entz Quits From North Dakota State To Join USC

After ten seasons in Fargo and five years as head coach of the Bison, Matt Entz is departing North Dakota State.

Entz informed ESPN’s Pete Thamel that he will be joining Lincoln Riley’s team at USC. Later, Zach Barnett of Football Scoop revealed that Entz will serve as the Trojans’ assistant head coach for linebackers and defence. He has never had an FBS coaching position before.

Entz coached the Bison for five years, during which time the team finished with a 60-10 record (32-7 in the Missouri Valley Conference) and two NCAA FCS titles in three title game appearances. He took over as head coach after Chris Klieman left for Kansas State after five seasons as the linebackers coach and defensive coordinator.

That isn’t, however, the current preoccupation of fans. Entz will be leaving the program to take a position at USC as the linebackers coach.

At NDSU, Entz presently makes over $400,000. It’s reasonable to suppose that he is receiving more money in order to relocate to Los Angeles from Fargo.

At the FCS level, North Dakota State is a formidable force. Entz has won two national titles and is 60-10 in Fargo, making it an extremely powerful program.

Entz will continue to lead NDSU until the conclusion of the FCS playoff run this year. The Bison, who have already defeated South Dakota, Drake, and Montana State, will take against Montana in the championship semifinals on Saturday.

“Having a championship-caliber staff is instrumental to the success of our team,” Riley said in USC’s official announcement. “By welcoming Matt Entz, a championship-winning head coach and outstanding defensive mind, we are bolstering our defensive staff. He is going to be an excellent addition to the USC football program.”

He is now giving up all of that to take a position coach at USC, where Lincoln Riley will start the next Big Ten season. Is it a true improvement? He is almost Fargo’s king, and he earns enough to have a very comfortable life.
