Despite becoming a free agency for the 2023 season, former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles has found other ways to compete and bolster his trophy collection.
Former NFL Player Nick Foles Has Found A New Passion Which He is Exceeding In
This past weekend at the PPA Finals in San Clemente, California, Foles used his skills in pickleball to compete in the men’s and 3.0 mixed doubles categories. In both classes, he won gold medals in a team that included his wife Tori and friend Jim Davenport.
The 34-year-old said to Will Daughton of Pickleball.com that the greatest transferable talent from football to his new sport is the quick recall required of a quarterback.

Being a 6-foot-6 former NFL quarterback, Foles has a distinct advantage over other athletes in his new endeavor. The 34-year-old claims that the value of having a short memory is the most important lesson he learned from football.
“There are plenty of shots where you dink it into the net, and there’s nothing more demoralizing than doing that, but you’ve got to move on and play the next point and just hit the next shot,” Foles told Pickleball.com. “You get a lot of those plays that you want back, but you have to move forward.”

There were other former NFL players in San Clemente besides Foles. The men’s 4.5 pairs class featured participation from Pro Bowler Golden Tate.
Stars like Tom Brady, Kevin Durant, Venus Williams, and Patrick Mahomes are among those who have invested in Major League Pickleball teams, making pickleball one of the fastest-growing sports in the nation.
Why did they call it pickleball?
According to Barney McCallum’s second tale, pickleball got its name from Pritchard’s dog Pickles, who used to chase after and run with the ball. Because Pickles didn’t join the family until a few years after the game’s creation, some people think he got his name from the game.

What is pickleball and why is it so popular?
Pickleball is a paddle sport that uses a paddle and a plastic ball with holes to mix aspects of ping-pong, badminton, and tennis. This is a game that suits players of all ages and abilities. Pickleball is an excellent sport for beginners as its rules are straightforward.
What is pickleball in simple terms?
The easiest way to define pickleball is as a hybrid of tennis, ping-pong, and badminton. On a badminton-sized court with a net akin to a tennis net, you may play both indoors and outdoors. The paddle used by players is similar to ping-pong paddles, but it’s larger and typically constructed of more sophisticated materials.
