Deion Sanders On Florida State Snub: “I can’t be upset”

Deion Sanders is not one of the former Florida State players who feels that the Seminoles should not have made the College Football Playoffs, even if they had an undefeated record this year.

Deion Sanders On Florida State Snub: “I can’t be upset”

The emotions felt by Florida State supporters after their undefeated 13-0 record and ACC Championship triumph were deemed insufficient by the selection committee to secure a berth in the top four are immense.

As part of the traditional New Year’s Six games, No. 5 Florida State will play No. 6 Georgia in the Orange Bowl. Georgia’s only loss of the year came from a loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game.

During his appearance on the “Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz,” Sanders—a standout player on Bobby Bowden’s Florida State team in the late 1980s who is currently Colorado’s head coach—was questioned about his level of rage about the circumstances.

I guess I can’t be angry. That’s who we’re recruiting away from. You must be aware of that. Now, this is business,” Sanders declared.

“A lot of people don’t look at it as a business. I look at it as, this is entertainment but this is business. So [there’s] no way you’re gonna leave Coach [Nick] Saban and Alabama out of a playoff.”

Sanders and Saban are well-known for their friendship, having been together in Aflac ads.

Sanders cut the interviewer off this past August when he revealed that he was a Seminole.

“No, no, no,” he said. “Do you know where I graduated from? .. I graduated from an HBCU. I thought it was from where you graduated from, isn’t it? Why do you keep calling me that if it wasn’t where I graduated from? I’m an HBCU grad.”

For the 2024–25 season, Sanders will need to consider his own program as they transition to the Big 12. The Buffaloes had a great start to the season, defeating TCU, the CFP runner-up the previous year, before hitting a wall and finishing with a 4-8 overall record.

Why is Deion Sanders called Coach Prime?

Throughout his playing career, spanning from high school to the NFL’s major leagues, he was referred to as “Prime Time”. Naturally, then, that nickname was modified to fit his new position when he became a coach, and so the moniker “Coach Prime” was established.

Has Deion Sanders won a Superbowl?

Sanders’ career included two Super Bowl victories. In Super Bowl XXIX, the 49ers defeated the San Diego Chargers 49–26, and in Super Bowl XXX, the Cowboys defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 27–17, with him starting at left cornerback.

What team did Deion Sanders retire with?

After playing with the Baltimore Ravens from 2004 to 2005, Sanders announced his retirement.
