Deadspin Reporter Gets Slammed By The Mother Of Native American Chiefs Fan

Given that her kid is Native American, the mother of a young football fanatic who dressed in a headgear and painted his face red and black at a Kansas City Chiefs game has criticized Deadspin for allegedly “doubling up” on prejudice against black and Native cultures.

Senior writer Carron Phillips’ story on Holden Armenta unexpectedly concentrated on a picture of the youngster standing sideways, implying he was wearing blackface without mentioning the red side.

But from pictures that are in the public domain, we already know that the fan wasn’t dressed in blackface. Instead, he was showing his love for the Kansas City Chiefs by donning red and black face paint.

Only one side of Deadspin’s face was visible.

The youngster does not, therefore, “hate black people.” And he has no hatred for Native Americans.

He is actually a Native American.

“The NFL needs to speak out against the Kansas City Chiefs fan in Black face, Native headdress,” read the headline, which accused the boy of “doubling up on the racism.”

Phillips, a former New York Daily News reporter, also slammed Holden’s Native American headdress and his “Tomahawk Chop” gesture, claiming the boy “found a way to hate Black people and Native Americans at the same time.”

“It takes a lot to disrespect two groups of people at once,” Phillips wrote in the article, which has since been tagged with a community note on X branding it “purposely deceiving.”

“This is what happens when you ban books, stand against Critical Race Theory, and try to erase centuries of hate,” he wrote. “You give future generations the ammunition they need to evolve and recreate racism better than before.”

The boy’s furious mother, Shannon Armenta, said Deadspin concentrated on a picture that concealed the fact that half of her kid’s face was painted red, despite sharing many photos of her son receiving a loving reaction during the game.

“This has nothing to do with the NFL,” she wrote, saying the Deadspin article was written “to create division.”

“He is Native American — just stop already.”

Raul Armenta, the child’s grandpa, is reportedly a board member of the Chumash Tribe in Santa Ynez, California, according to the Post Millennial.

Deadspin has yet to update their piece, though.
