Colts Owner Jim Irsay Rips ‘First Take’, Threatens To Take Legal Action On DUI Remark

Following his remarks on his 2014 DUI arrest on HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel,” in which he said he was also “prejudiced against because I am a rich white billionaire,”

Irsay did not seem to be comfortable with the remarks made on the ESPN roundtable program.

First try, you’re going to lose your ass Sued since there was no alcohol or illicit drugs present, $29,000 is not much money for me to be carrying around, I was arrested in 2014, and I constantly donate $2000-$10,000 to the needy and destitute on the streets, improving the world,” Irsay wrote on X following the show.

Irsay’s remarks on HBO were extensively debated on “First Take,” and Martin stated she had several concerns about what he had said.

“What’s frustrating is, his comments exemplify exactly what people think NFL owners are — detached, just a total lack of awareness of their privilege and the — the flippancy of how they discuss their privilege,” Martin added.

Qerim continued, saying:

“It’s also an opportunity for him there to talk about … the gravity of the situation in terms of driving drunk, right, while you’re intoxicated… So, if you’re going to revisit this after 2014, it’s an opportunity to address a serious situation where many people have lost their lives. But instead, you took it in that direction?”

“Because he thinks about himself. He doesn’t think about anyone else,” chimed in Smith

Irsay declared he would sue “First Take” for implying he was under the influence of alcohol and that he was in possession of “illegal drugs”.

Irsay, 64, discussed the incident with Andrea Kremer during their HBO interview. He later entered a guilty plea to one misdemeanor count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated in September 2014. Irsay claimed that his inability to walk when Indiana police asked him to did so was due to recent hip surgery rather than painkillers.
