Patriots QB Mac Jones Questions Play Call Post Being Benched

It was a difficult day in Europe for Mac Jones and the Patriots on Sunday.

The quarterback was limited to 170 yards passing in the Colts’ opening game, and over the course of 60 agonizing minutes of play, New England scored only six scores.

Late in the game, Jones had an opportunity to bring the Patriots back from the edge, but he threw a terrible interception that almost put an end to New England’s chances of winning the game.

For the Patriots’ last drive, Bailey Zappe started in place of the third-year pro.

Following an interception, Bill O’Brien, the offensive coordinator for the Pats, was seen angrily berating quarterback Mac Jones on the bench.

In the last drive for the club, Jones was eventually benched in favour of backup Bailey Zappe.

Regretfully, following a false spike, Zappe threw an odd interception that ended the game.

Jones was questioned about the team’s playcalling at the conclusion of the half and the reason they didn’t attempt a hail mary when in close proximity to midfield after the game.

“No clue. There’s 2 seconds left, and we needed 60 yards, so… I don’t know,”

With two seconds left in the first half, Indianapolis Colts kicker Matt Gay missed a field goal, giving New England the ball at their own 47-yard line.

The Patriots took a conservative approach, calling up a short pass to Demario Douglas that gained thirty yards but fell far short of the goal line, instead of letting Jones fling a bomb toward the end zone.

The Patriots have previously refused to allow Jones to attempt a Hail Mary. They made the identical decision in the closing seconds of their season-ending defeat against the Las Vegas Raiders, passing up a downfield heave from their own 45. Instead, they called a rushing play, which set up Chandler Jones’ historic multi-lateral pick-six.
