Jets Attempted To Trade For Davante Adams, Josh McDaniels Before Leaving Made Sure That Does Not Happen

After sustaining an Achilles injury, Aaron Rodgers gave everyone on the Jets hope that he may make a comeback this season. This may have been the reason why New York brought in elite players ahead of the NFL trade deadline. When Davante Adams was discussed, before leaving, Josh McDaniels made sure this trade does not happen!

Specifically, the Raiders failed to deal Davante Adams to a contender during the trade deadline. As Aidan O’Connell will start for the remainder of the season instead of Jimmy Garoppolo, who the Raiders signed this past summer, head coach Josh McDaniels was the face of the team’s reorganization.

Before the trade deadline, New York did make inquiries about Adams, as Rich Cimini of ESPN reports. A midseason deal, though, was out of the Raiders’ grasp.

Just hours after the trade deadline, on Wednesday morning, Raiders owner Mark Davis dismissed general manager Dave Ziegler and quarterback Josh McDaniels, allowing the outgoing administration to accomplish one more coup.

Perhaps Adams would have left Las Vegas if Davis had dismissed McDaniels and Ziegler immediately following the team’s Week 9 Monday Night Football loss to the Detroit Lions, 26-14.

Now that Rodgers is still out with an injury, the Jets will play Adams in Week 11 while McDaniels gets paid for doing nothing.

Depending on which way they choose to go, the Jets may give the Raiders another call in the upcoming summer.

During their tenure with the Green Bay Packers, Adams and Rodgers were among the league’s most productive tandems, and the wide receiver demonstrated the previous season that he is still capable of producing at a high level when playing quarterback with Derek Carr.

However, McDaniels was unable to come up with inventive ways to pass the ball to one of the NFL’s top wide receivers. Reuniting Rodgers and Adams with the Jets would increase the pressure on the New England Patriots to make additions in order to compete in the AFC East.

If Adams had been transferred by the Raiders, he would have become the ninth former Packer to sign with the Jets.

There are other Packers alumni associated with Rodgers, including offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, wide receivers Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, and Malik Taylor, offensive lineman Billy Turner, quarterback Tim Boyle, and safety Adrian Amos.
