After a contentious last play that saw Stephen Curry’s game-winning layup called despite possible basket interference from teammate Draymond Green, the Warriors upset the Thunder on Friday night. The referees concluded that even though Green made contact with the rim prior to the ball passing through the basket, the ball was not impacted by him.

After reviewing the footage, the officials reversed their earlier call of basket interference, which they had waived off. Mitchell Ervin, the crew chief, explained the choice to allow the basket to count after the game.

In an exciting game on Friday night, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 141-139. The play was reviewed and reversed after a protest, giving the Warriors the victory.

“It was clear and conclusive evidence that Draymond does not touch the ball. Although Draymond does touch the rim, he does not touch the ball, nor does him touching the rim cause the ball to take an unnatural bounce therefore a basketball violation does not occur on the play,” crew chief Mitchell Ervin said during the postgame pool report.

Although the eventual decision was correct, it wasn’t Green’s first contentious moment of the evening.

Green lost his temper with just 38 seconds left in the fourth quarter, with the Thunder holding a one-point lead. He started ranting at an official and frantically swinging his arms. The rant lasted for over forty seconds.

Amazingly, Green escaped a technical foul as well as a game delay.

“I’m not sure what he’s so upset about. And the stuff he gets away with blows my mind,” the play-by-player announcer said.

With a narrow victory, the Warriors raised their record to 5-1 for the year. The Thunder fell down 3–3.

In addition to the game’s last play, Ervin was questioned about why the Warriors weren’t given a delay of game call when the Thunder were prepared to inbound the ball following Curry’s last basket. He responded by saying that the officials needed to settle “multiple administrative matters” before play could resume.

“It’s our responsibility to assure that there are 10 players on the court and ready to play, and we completed that task,” Ervin said.
