The 26-year-old New York Giants running back defended his choice to holler at a supporter during the Giants’ game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, alleging the man was disparaging teammate Daniel Jones.

“Stop reaching and trying to make it a me vs fans thing,” Barkley wrote on X (formerly Twitter) as he reposted and responded to a video of him yelling at a fan. “I’m not gonna just sit there and not say anything while you talk crazy to 8 after he just got hurt… buddy knew he was in the wrong,” he added, referencing Jones’, 26, jersey number.

The New York Giants lost their third game in a row on Sunday, falling 31-16 to Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins. The offence has struggled in Year 2 of Brian Daboll’s tenure, with the Giants being only the sixth team since 1991 to go five games without scoring a single first-half offensive touchdown.

To compound New York’s woes, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a neck injury in the fourth quarter after being struck from behind by Andrew Van Ginkel. Jones told reporters after the game that his neck hurts and that an MRI on Monday will disclose additional information about the problem. According to NFL Media, there is still optimism that Jones may escape major harm.

Barkley, who missed his third straight game due to a high-ankle injury, wore a black cap, black shirt, and black shorts at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.

It’s unclear what the fan, or group of supporters, said to Barkley to cause him to yell back.

The Giants have dealt with numerous injuries, ranging from Barkley and left tackle Andrew Thomas to rookie centers John Michael Schmitz and Micah McFadden, but their most recent disaster occurred in the fourth quarter of their most recent loss, when Andrew Van Ginkel tore around Giants offensive lineman Joshua Ezeudu and sacked Jones — while also injuring his neck.

has had a difficult start to the 2023 season, averaging a career-low 176.8 passing yards per game with only two touchdown passes and six interceptions, which is tied for the league lead. With this neck issue, he may be forced to miss some time.
