Keyshawn Johnson & Warren Sapp Spark Old Beef Again

Sapp was questioned about his long-running dispute with Johnson during his weekly appearance on Jason Whitlock’s “Fearless” on The Blaze earlier this week.

The veteran pass rusher dated their friendship back to the 1999 Pro Bowl, when Johnson “followed” him around during practice and “lobbied” Sapp to assist in orchestrating the Jets’ move to the Bucs.

Sapp’s height and quickness on the defensive line disrupted offences, but his playing style and choice of words were not always pleasant. In a recent Fearless with Jason Whitlock interview, Sapp remembered Keyshawn Johnson’s desire to play for Tampa Bay after the Buccaneers fell short of a Super Bowl berth in the 1999 NFL season.

While Sapp thought Johnson was a “special” athlete, he added he would never want to be Johnson’s teammate again because of his failure to “lead” the Buccaneers’ offense.

“He [Johnson] didn’t lead us at all,” Sapp said. “That’s why we get in Joe Jurevicius and went and got Keenan McCardell.”

Sapp imitated Johnson saying, “Hey dawg, you just lost that [NFC] championship 11-6. I’ll get you that touchdown! I guarantee you, me and you come together, we’re gonna get a Super Bowl!”

Johnson, who played four seasons with the Buccaneers, replied to Sapp’s statements on Friday, calling him a liar and a “embarrassment to society.”

“@WarrenSapp please stop lying, I would never in a million yrs follow yo sorry ass ever. You are an embarrassment to society…”I’m sorry, and I mean it,” Johnson tweeted.

“please keep my name out yo mouth fake ass MF..sad go get some help..tired of you using my name. The only dude I would follow is #55 [Derrick Brooks].”

Johnson then reposted a selfie that Sapp took of the two recently on the sidelines at a Colorado game, adding “Someone is crazy and it ain’t me @WarrenSapp … I promise I will not respond to his silliness for at least another 30 years.”

Three seasons after the 1999 season, the Buccaneers won Super Bowl XXXVII under Jon Gruden, who took over for Tony Dungy. Johnson has 298 catches for 3,828 yards and 17 touchdowns in four seasons with Tampa Bay.
