Bears HC Matt Eberflus Makes An Off Comment On Chase Claypool’s Absence, Gets Corrected Immediately

Chase Claypool did not play on Sunday, but he can say he was not a part of a historic blown game in the Bears’ 31-28 defeat to the Denver Broncos.

Bears HC Matt Eberflus Makes An Off Comment On Chase Claypool’s Absence, Gets Corrected Immediately

Immediately following the game, members of the media claimed that Claypool’s sideline gear was in his locker at Soldier Field, but seemed undisturbed, raising suspicions regarding Claypool’s whereabouts. Claypool chose not to attend the game after learning he would be inactive, according to Bears coach Matt Eberflus. Eberflus went on to state that he expected the former second-round selection to be in Halas Hall on Monday.

Fields told reporters 15 minutes later that he knew Claypool was out Saturday, but he wasn’t informed why, which irritated him.

The Bears quickly retracted Eberflus’ comments and emphasized that the team had urged Claypool to stay at home. According to the organization, he was not offered the option of attending the game.

Chicago is currently one of only two NFL clubs that has yet to win a game. Despite this, the Bears now possess the first two selections in the 2024 NFL Draft as a result of Carolina’s loss on Sunday, so they know where they are.

The Bears benched him, and coach Matt Eberflus said it had nothing to do with Claypool’s comments to media on Friday about coaches not placing him in the greatest position to succeed. He also stated that Claypool was unaware of his inactivity on Friday.

Quarterback Justin Fields appeared to imply something different about when Claypool found out he’d be out, though he didn’t indicate Claypool found out on Friday.

“Coach let us know on—I don’t know if it was—I think it was Saturday maybe, at the team meeting, let everybody know,” Fields said. “At that point, it’s just next man up.

Claypool is dissatisfied, just as he was in Pittsburgh. On the field, he’s showed glimpses of skill, but he doesn’t come off as a terrific “locker room guy.” The interesting part is that no one knew anything about it when he was in Pittsburgh.
