Linebacker Brevin Randle was banned indefinitely by Louisiana Tech on Saturday, a day after he was captured on tape stomping on the head of a UTEP player who was laying face down following a play.

Officials did not flag Randle during the Bulldogs’ 24-10 victory in El Paso, Texas, on Friday night, but footage of the play went viral on social media.
UTEP offensive lineman Steven Hubbard was down on the field, presumably injured, until Randle got up by pressing down on Hubbard and then kicking his foot back into the side of the opponent’s helmet.

“Coach [Sonny] Cumbie and I met with Brevin Randle today and informed him that he has been suspended indefinitely as a result of the incident during last night’s game versus UTEP,” stated Louisiana Tech athletic director Eric Wood in a statement published Saturday night.
Randle, a redshirt senior, collided with offensive lineman Steven Hubbard of the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), who was already face down on the grass.

The Texas native then rose up and pounded on his head, gyrating in anguish.
Wood stated that Randle’s disregard for his opponent’s safety, as well as his unbecoming behaviour that fell below his program’s standards, resulted in his suspension.

“Our University, athletic department and football program believe in culture, class, and competitive excellence and in no way was that displayed in that moment,” Wood stated.
‘In speaking with Brevin, he acknowledges that his action was wrong and understands the consequence of that action.

It is unclear whether Randle would face an official NCAA penalty in addition to his Louisiana punishment.
Randle, a senior transfer from Stephen F. Austin, is the team’s second-leading tackler with 46. Louisiana went on to win the game 24-10 thanks to Smoke Harris’ 67-yard punt return.
