Coach Funes, 50, was arrested on Saturday, Sept. 23, on counts of child abuse with potential serious bodily harm and violence, according to Murrieta police.

According to KCBS, the brawl broke out during a game between the Murrieta Broncos and the Perris Panthers in the Murrieta Jr. All-American Youth Football League.

During the fight, Funes hit a 14-year-old player from the other side, according to police and the site.

“I can understand children, but this was an adult who intentionally hit my child in front of me,” Neenah Kaowili, the teen’s mother, told KNBC.

Funes, a Broncos coach, hit Panthers player Harlem Edwards in the face during the on-field brawl, according to police who arrived before 6 p.m.

“The victim sustained an eye injury and displayed symptoms of a concussion,” according to the Murrieta Police Department.

Neenah Kaowili, the 14-year-old victim’s mother, stated on her Instagram page that her son was knocked unconscious for 2 minutes and then had a seizure.

The mother went on to say that her kid had to be rushed to the hospital because he suffered “physical and mental injuries” as well as “emotional trauma.”

Funes was freed from jail on Sunday after posting $35,000 bond, which infuriated the victim’s mother. Funes was fired as coach of the Murrieta Broncos, according to the Murrieta Broncos’ president.

The Murrieta Jr. All-American Youth Football League described the event on Facebook as “unfortunate and disheartening.”

The league stated that it does not condone the conduct and that it is a “tough situation” for everyone concerned.

According to KABC, the organization fired Funes as a coach and banned him from the league. Both teams have been dissolved and their seasons have been forfeited.
