Its Concerning For Carson Wentz As He Still Remains A Free Agent While The New Season Is Approaching Soon

The Chiefs are reportedly likely to start the season with just two quarterbacks on the roster, despite social media activity from at least one Dov-bot account claiming that Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com claimed that the Chiefs had some interest in the free-agent Carson Wentz quarterback.

Veteran Blaine Gabbert will likely be positioned behind all-time great Patrick Mahomes on Kansas City’s depth chart. The Chiefs will give one of their many younger players the additional roster place.

For the 30-year-old Wentz, who still does not have an NFL team with 10 days left in the season, any form of interest from an NFL team would be considered a fairly encouraging development.

“Yeah, so there’s a back pocket item because they signed Blaine Gabbert, they have Shane Buechele, so they feel pretty good about the backup quarterbacks,” Jeremy Fowler said on a recent episode of “SportsCenter,” according to On3.com.

“But Carson Wentz and the Chiefs did talk this offseason. There was some dialogue about Wentz potentially joining the Chiefs maybe down the road, or at least, you know, keeping that communication open.

“And I was told the Chiefs were fairly receptive to that idea. They undoubtedly value the talent. And I was told Wentz is open to getting to  a championship-type team, getting into a new winning culture, where he can learn, you know, sit behind a Patrick Mahomes.”

Since his release from Washington in March, Carson Wentz, the former Eagles, Colts, and Commanders starter, has received little notice. Wentz is likely better positioned to find a home after the preseason, which exposed numerous clubs to be without strong insurance plans, as the most experienced unsigned veteran quarterback other than Matt Ryan, who has since joined CBS Sports as a studio and game commentator.

Wentz has significantly slipped in the eyes of league observers. He alternated as the Commanders’ starter and backup last year when healthy.

The Commanders therefore decided to sit Wentz in their home victory over the Cowboys in January, a 26-6 victory that gave them an 8-8-1 record.

Wentz might serve as an injury substitute as the season progresses, but the fact that nobody even invited him in for a workout during training camp is revealing.

“I try not to play all those games in my head because you can drive yourself mad,” Wentz said after his final benching. “You start to think big picture — what’s next year; you think of careers you think of all these things.

“I try to hone it back in and say just be present, be positive. Next week will take care of itself. I try not to play all those things in my head, just be ready for what comes.”

During the first six games of the 2022 season, Wentz started all six and completed 144 of 232 passes for 1,489 yards, 10 touchdown passes, and six interceptions.
