Police claim that the Tony Stewart Racing driver was pushed out a window when the two vehicles collided as a result of speeding up and refusing to pass one another.
She was transported to the hospital after the incident on Friday on Interstate 65 in Jackson County, Indiana, but she passed away on Saturday, the day before a championship race.

When a black 2016 Chevrolet Malibu drew up in the right lane, Ashlea’s fiancé Jacob Kelly, 31, was operating the GMC Terrain in the left lane.
The two drivers “started accelerating quickly and wouldn’t let the other vehicle pass,” according to the police.
The 22-year-old driver of the Chevrolet is then said to have swerved into the left lane.

A male driver, age 31, was operating a black Malibu while Albertson was a passenger in a GMC Terrain.
State police told NBC affiliate WTHR that the Malibu drove into the Terrain’s lane, the Terrain lost control and spun, and the two cars crashed as each accelerated to prevent passing one other.
Albertson was propelled from the Terrain as it overturned.
