The Yankees are moving up two of their best prospects because they are out of alternatives and short on time. Before beginning a series with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday, the Yankees will add outfielder Everson Pereira and infielder Oswald Peraza to the big league roster, according to Jack Curry of the YES Network.

The first day that teams could call up prospects without having to wait until they had 45 days of big league service time and lost their ability to be a rookie in 2024 was on Friday.

The 22-year-old Pereira is presently having a fantastic season in minor-league baseball. He hit.291 in 46 games with the Class AA Somerset Patriots while driving in 31 runs, hitting 10 home runs, and on-base at a.362 clip. Pereira had a.312 batting average, 8 home runs, 33 RBI, and a.386 on-base percentage after being promoted to Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

In his 19 games this season with the Yankees, Peraza has struggled, batting only.173 with no home runs and just 6 RBI.
According to MLB.com, the 22-year-old Pereira is regarded as the Yankees’ third-best prospect. The native of Venezuela, who has been a member of the team since he was 17, is ranked 80th in baseball.

Given that the Yankees have recently come under fire for putting too much emphasis on analytics, Sabean and Minaya are both renowned for having a background in scouting.
The Yankees’ difficulties go back more than a year, so whatever formula they may have used hasn’t worked this year.

After a 2-10 run that saw the team’s record drop below.500, the Yankees made the decision to elevate two of their best prospects. The group is currently suffering from an eight-game losing skid.

The Yankees are now nine games out of the last wild card slot, which is held by the Seattle Mariners, with 38 games remaining in the season. Just one game separates the Blue Jays from their divisional rivals. The Yankees’ recent three-game sweep might be the icing on the cake for the Pinstripers this season because the Red Sox (3 GB) are also ahead of them in the standings.
