Free Agent Ezekiel Elliott Has These Three Teams Wanting To Acquire Him

For cap savings, Dallas waived Elliott, a 28-year-old. Elliott has remained a free agent despite a couple of teams apparently showing interest in him at the time of his release. He paid a visit to the New England Patriots at the end of July, but other than from Dallas, he doesn’t seem to have drawn much attention.

Even the Cowboys management doesn’t appear to agree on whether to re-sign Elliott. Elliott’s return has been openly advocated for by quarterback Dak Prescott, and owner Jerry Jones is open to the notion, but head coach Mike McCarthy recently told reporters that Elliott isn’t necessary.

Due of the enormous salary Ezekiel Elliott would have earned in 2023, the Dallas Cowboys released him. Elliott got a hefty five-year deal worth $90 million back in 2019, which made sense at the time. However, given his recent performances, no team would consider paying the running back that much money now.

There have been rumors that the Cowboys are still trying to re-sign Elliott on a deal that is much more favorable to the organization as the 2017 NFL season draws closer.

According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, and New York Jets are all considering making a move at the running back position.

The Patriots are still very interested in signing Pro Bowler Ezekiel Elliott as a free agency.

Elliott’s old team, the Cowboys, are also “in the mix” to re-sign the veteran, hoping to keep him on their roster.

According to Howe, the New York Jets have concurrently joined the hunt for Ezekiel Elliott’s services and have expressed interest in the 28-year-old.

Although Elliott is apparently on New York’s radar, Cook is its top objective. The four-time Pro Bowler would give the Jets offense a more pass-friendly running back who might be an outlet for Aaron Rodgers’ system.  It leaves Dallas and New England as the two likely landing spots for Elliott.

In a similar development, the New England Patriots, who had previously shown only a passing interest in Dalvin Cook, now seem to be backing off from their pursuit of him.

In recent seasons, Elliott’s performance, previously recognized as among the NFL’s most effective running backs, has drastically decreased. His early decision to take on more work than he needed to is now beginning to catch up with him.

He has 231 carries for 876 yards and 12 touchdowns in 15 games last season. He gained a lot from Tony Pollard’s labor despite only averaging 3.8 yards per run.
