Jets-Browns Hall Of Fame Game 2023: Lights Went Off Which Gave Rise To Aaron Rodgers Darkness Memes

On Thursday night, as soon as the Jets vs. Browns Hall of Fame Game went entirely dark, NBC quickly panned the camera onto quarterback Aaron Rodgers. As one might expect, as players and supporters waited for the lights to turn back on in Canton, Ohio, the picture of Rodgers, who was only minding his own business on the sidelines, quickly went viral.

Aaron Rodgers spent a portion of his offseason on what was dubbed a “darkness retreat” during which he sat in full darkness for four nights, thus it is simple to make fun of him.

It was the ideal setting for each and every “darkness retreat” joke about Rodgers that NFL fans might have been keeping to themselves (or sharing openly). As you can imagine, the comments poured in once the following photo hit the internet.

The 39-year-old Jets quarterback was visible on the sidelines during the delay, which lasted a little more than 15 minutes, and appropriately in the dark.

Rodgers made a lot of news this offseason in February when he went on a retreat in the dark at Sky Cave Retreats in southern Oregon to help him make decisions about his NFL future because his time with the Packers was, at best, hazy before he was dealt to the Jets.

“I really wanted to contemplate some things with some relationships in my life, some family stuff, and then, obviously, career stuff, and just kind of let whatever was going to come in, come in. And it did, it definitely did,” Rodgers said on the “Aubrey Marcus Podcast” in March.

Rodgers was the target of several jokes on social media when Jets head coach Robert Saleh and Browns coach Kevin Stefanski met at midfield to determine whether the game would resume.

The Browns’ official Twitter account joked that “this darkness retreat thing isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.”

“You didn’t eat any psychedelics lol,” replied one user who was referencing Rodgers’ use and praise of the psychedelic drug ayahuasca.
