Seahawks Geno Smith Is The One Who Convinced Coach Pete Carroll To Select Jaxon Smith Njigba

One of the NFL’s most remarkable wide receiver trios belongs to the Seattle Seahawks, and they haven’t even played a down together yet. With Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf already among the league’s finest tandems, Seattle made the decision to add to their depth at the position by drafting Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round.

Njigba arrived in Seattle in what way? The Seahawks welcomed him into the team after Geno Smith made sure of it.

The quarterback for the Seahawks, Geno Smith, recently shared an intriguing insider tip that provides insight into how the organization makes decisions before the 2023 NFL Draft.

Prior to the draft, Smith claims to have taken the initiative to text head coach Pete Carroll to urge him to choose outstanding wide receiver Jaxon Njigba.

“I was actually training with one of my boys and I was watching his highlights. And I texted Pete (Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll) ‘Man we gotta draft this guy,'” Smith said on NFL Network this week. “And we ended up getting him. I was so happy.

“Just having him as part of that wide receiver group with DK and Tyler and being part of that offense, you can tell how special he is as a player. He’s really gonna bring that added dimension to our offense. I’m just happy that we got him.”

Jaxon Smith Njigba’s potential was recognized by Smith, and the Seahawks took his advice and selected the gifted receiver, proving his predictions about his ability to be surprisingly correct.

Njigba’s rise to fame began with the 2021 campaign. He broke the Big Ten receiving yards record (1,545 yards, Lee Evans in 2021) and set school records at Ohio State with 95 catches, which ranks seventh all-time in the Big Ten.

Despite playing with Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave, Njigba was able to pull off this accomplishment. With 347 receiving yards and a school record 15 catches, he also broke Rose Bowl records. He finished the game with three touchdowns and was named the game’s offensive player.

With Lockett and Metcalf on the outside, Smith will once more have Smith-Njigba as his third wide receiver, giving him a fantastic trio of pass catchers to target. Smith faces significant risks as a result.
