The star of Ireland’s Women’s World Cup squad, Ruesha Littlejohn, declined to shake Caitlin Foord’s hand after the two nations’ Thursday night group-stage match in Sydney.
It wouldn’t take long to identify a potential cause of the snub.
The Players Tribune received confirmation from Ireland captain Katie McCabe before the Women’s World Cup that she and Littlejohn had broken up after dating for more than seven years.

Meanwhile, McCabe and Foord play together for Arsenal in the women’s tier of the English Premier League.
According to The Daily Mail, the two recently took a trip to Ibiza with a larger group of their friends.
Along with being single, Foord recently ended a relationship with Lia Walti, an Arsenal player who plays midfield for Switzerland.

According to Daily Mail, it “does not infer that Foord had anything to do with the breakdown of Littlejohn and McCabe’s relationship.”

Foord and McCabe are “simply good mates and their friendship had no bearing on McCabe’s break-up with Littlejohn,” according to the outlet’s sources close to Team Australia.
Littlejohn confronted Foord on the pitch after the game, and according to witnesses, she had to be “restrained” by many of her teammates.
