Green Bay Packers Set To Add One More MVP Quarterback To The Squad

For the opening of training camp, the Green Bay Packers have a seasoned quarterback to add to the mix (kind of).

After dealing away Aaron Rodgers this offseason, the Green Bay Packers are entering a new era. Although the Packers have added someone who might contend to replace Jordan Love as the starting quarterback, Jordan Love has the opportunity to become the new quarterback in Green Bay.

The Packers are going through a quarterback change right now. They possessed the finest quarterback room in all of football a year ago, with Aaron Rodgers, the two-time defending league MVP, and a 2020 first-round selection, waiting in the wings.

After a good workout, the Packers are anticipated to sign former Birmingham Stallions quarterback and 2023 USFL MVP Alex McGough.

The Seattle Seahawks selected McGough (6-foot-3 3/8 and 214 pounds) in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Before moving around the league a little bit, he spent his debut season on their practice squad. Before returning to Seattle at the conclusion of the 2020 season, he made stops in Jacksonville and Houston.

His final NFL trip was there.

He never played a snap in an NFL game, but it didn’t make the USFL less interested in him. He was chosen by the Birmingham Stallions in 2022 with the sixth overall choice.

This summer, the Stallions won the USFL championship once again, in large part because to their quarterback. In the regular season, McGough completed 67.4 percent of his throws for 2,104 yards, 20 touchdowns, and only five interceptions. He finished third in throwing yards and first in passing touchdowns in the league.

McGough was a dual-threat quarterback who placed third with five running touchdowns and sixth with 403 rushing yards, which is also important to note. Skip Holtz, the head coach of his USFL team, thinks McGough has NFL potential.

“It’s been crazy. From starting as a freshman at college to getting cut and getting cut again,” McGough said before this year’s USFL Championship Game. “To being here and being hurt, not playing, then coming to the championship.”

McGough has a background in sports. His mother and father also participated in collegiate volleyball and football, respectively. McGough played offensive line for his younger brother at FIU. His mother’s mother played basketball professionally, and Kelly Goodburn, her brother, punted for Washington in the 1991 Super Bowl victory.
