Kyler Murray’s turbulent 2022 season came to a grisly end on December 12, when the Arizona Cardinals quarterback tore his ACL.

The 25-year-old quarterback spent the offseason recovering and spoke up about the injury in a “Flight Plan” podcast episode.

His torn knee served as an unpleasant capstone to a trying 2022 and was the first major injury of his life.

Prior to Murray tearing his ACL in a December game against the Patriots, the Cardinals were on their way to a 4-13 season but completed 2021 as a playoff club.

Since then, Murray has concentrated on his recovery while the Cardinals have brought in a new head coach and general manager in an effort to turn around their current situation.

Since his injury, Murray has largely kept a low profile, but in a conversation with the team’s internal media staff, he revealed some details. Last season, according to Murray, “the energy, the aura, and the vibes going into the season were all negative,” and things only got worse from there.

“It’s got to be a positive. There really is no option for it to be a negative,” Murray said in his first interview about the subject since getting injured, part of a new episode of “Flight Plan” debuting this week.

“I feel you get your little grace period right after it happens, dwell on it, soak in it, let the  feelings take over. After that, (expletive), we gotta go. Life doesn’t stop. The job doesn’t stop. And I’m not going to stop.”

The quarterback said that caused a lot of “frustration,” but the quarterback now says that the team has “no option for it to be a negative” as they head into the 2023 campaign.

“It happened for a reason,” Murray said. “The things we were doing weren’t sustainable for success. It was necessary and in turn good will come out of what happened.”

“Having to deal with all that stuff and trying to focus on football, and then I got Covid in camp, I hurt my wrist in camp so I missed a lot of reps, and having to play catch up in the season, starting with the Chiefs, it was kind of a compilation of (expletive)-up things going on.

“I’m thinking of stuff that I wasn’t part of, like the draft, who we were gonna get, young players coming out,” Murray said. “The whole (last) year was (expletive). It happened for a reason. The things we were doing weren’t sustainable for success. It was necessary and in turn good will come out of what happened.”

The squad hired an offensive coordinator and made changes to the general manager, head coach, and defensive coordinator.

The Arizona Cardinals’ new head coach should make a significant difference after last year’s staff struggled to make the most of the team’s potential and appeared to let the offense rely on Kyler Murray pulling off an amazing feat.
