NFL 2023: Bill Belichick Is Most Likely Going To Hit Rock Bottom As A Coach

John Breech of CBSSports.com pointed out that Belichick is actually closer to the all-time record for losses than for wins.

Here’s a look at the current list:

1. Dan Reeves: 190-165-2
2. Jeff Fisher: 173-165-1
3. Tom Landry: 250-162-6
4. Don Shula: 328-156-6
5. Bill Belichick: 298-152-0

With 152 regular-season losses and 165 overall losses, he is now ranked fifth. Dan Reeves and Jeff Fisher both hold the record for regular-season defeats with 165. Tom Landry leads the pack with 178 total defeats.

Only 13 losses separate Belichick from both benchmarks. In contrast, he needs 30 victories during the regular season and 18 victories overall to surpass Don Shula’s records of 328 and 347.

Bill Belichick, the head coach of the New England Patriots, is only 30 victories away from tying the late, great Don Shula for the most victories as a head coach in NFL history. But even though it could take him at least three seasons to get there, he might first make some less desired history.

Owner Robert Kraft was directly asked in March if Belichick would stay until he caught Shula or if he could make it through another season without making the playoffs. The foreboding remark from Kraft implied that he cares more about the team’s success than he does about records.

After Tom Brady left after the 2019 season, the current tendency became an issue for Belichick. In 2020, his teams had a 7-9 record; in 2021, they had a 10-7 record; in 2022, they had an 8-9 record. With a 26th defeat in the postseason, they have a three-year record of 25-25 in the regular season.

The question of whether Bill Belichick is the best head coach of all time and if Tom Brady’s excellence as a quarterback is to blame for the six Super Bowls he won with the Patriots has been more heated in recent months.

People are questioning Andy Reid in large part because of the recent success he has had with the Kansas City Chiefs and even during his previous career with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Given the schedule this year, which includes games against the Chiefs, Eagles, Cowboys, Giants, and Chargers in addition to the six divisional games, it could be difficult to escape finishing last for the first time since 2000. Which may make it challenging for Belichick to stay in New England into 2024.
