Should the Los Angeles Rams deal Aaron Donald to the USC Trojans in exchange for Caleb Williams, according to former Cleveland Browns general manager Michael Lombardi’s sensational trade suggestion for the 2023 campaign?

Former Browns GM Michael Lombardi Discusses “Blockbuster” NFL Trade Involving Aaron Donald & Caleb Williams

If the Los Angeles Rams have a difficult start to the 2023 season, there have been more and more speculations that the all-world defensive lineman Aaron Donald should be traded.

The USC quarterback, Caleb Williams, is preparing for his final collegiate campaign and is predicted to go first overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Williams’ playing style has led to parallels to Patrick Mahomes, and many NFL teams would kill to have him on their roster for the next season.

Michael Lombardi, a former NFL general manager, recently discussed the Los Angeles Rams and expressed his opinion that the 2022 Super Bowl champions may trade up for Williams.

This discussion began with a simple idea made by Jason McIntyre on The Herd and continued today on the Pat McAfee Show. In an effort to trade for USC quarterback Caleb Williams, the Rams could deal him, according to former NFL executive Michael Lombardi.

He said the following:

“Say the Rams start off slow and say they’re 1-5, they’re 2-6, somewhere in there and they’re headed for Caleb Williams in the draft. Right? Do they trade at that point? Aaron Donald to a team at the trade deadline? Do we get a trade for Aaron Donald because he’s truly their only asset, right?”

“They tried to trade Stafford this offseason, the $59 million option bonus that, you know, they can say they didn’t, they can deny it all they want. So, the only true asset really, that’s marketable is Donald and I wonder if they get off to a slow start and trade Donald.”

The Rams owe quarterback Matthew Stafford, whom Lombardi said Los Angeles sought to trade, roughly $60 million this season. He said that they were “negligent” if they didn’t try to exchange him. The Rams are already paying a price for the Super Bowl victory they claimed in 2022.

Caleb Williams, the current Heisman Trophy winner, is such an outstanding prospect that dealing Donald is worth contemplating if the Rams are indeed terrible enough to receive the No. 1 selection.
