Sharing her side of the story on social media, Britney Spears expressed disappointment of the incident, and urged individuals in the public eye to set an example by treating everyone with respect. Spears recounted the incident, stating that she saw the athlete at two different hotels, and decided to approach him at the second hotel to congratulate him. Britney Spears emphasized in her tweet that she is still waiting for an apology from either Wembanyama, his security, or the Spurs organization. Wembanyama recounts a different side of the incident though. Wembanyama stated “I didn’t see what happened because I was walking straight and didn’t stop. That person grabbed me from behind, not on my shoulder… I just know that the security pushed her away. I don’t know with how much force, but security pushed her away.”
Following the incident, Britney Spears filed a police report, alleging that she was struck by a security guard while attempting to gain Wembanyama’s attention. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that they responded to a “battery investigation.” Later confirming that no charges will be filed against the person involved.
The incident has gained a tremendous amount of attention on social media, prompting discussions on the importance of respect and treatment of fans. Britney Spears’ husband, Sam Asghari, blasted Wembanyama and his security on social media, condemning the behavior and calling for accountability. Emphasizing that the blame should be put on the security and those who hired them.
Meanwhile, Victor Wembanyama is set to make his NBA summer league debut with the Spurs against the Charlotte hornets, focusing on his upcoming games as well. The young basketball prodigy is highly regarded for his talent with some considering him as the best prospect since Lebron James, and will aim to prove himself on the court. However the incident with Britney Spears is not a good start to his initial days in the league.
