Aaron Judge Injury Update: His Swings Are Great But The Return Is Still Uncertain

Aaron Judge, the outfielder for the New York Yankees and the current AL MVP, has started swinging off a tee as he recovers from an injury to his right big toe sustained when he collided with the Dodger Stadium wall earlier this month. Judge was previously unable to playing catch because of a damaged ligament in his toe. He has recently increased his baseball activities.

Aaron Judge Injury Update: His Swings Are Great But The Return Is Still Uncertain

Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees is improving after suffering a sprained right toe that has kept him out of play since June 3. A crucial step in Judge’s rehabilitation journey has been reached with his recent beginning of hitting from a tee.

“(Judge is doing) what he can tolerate physically,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone told the New York Post on Monday. Hitting coach Dillon Lawson added: “His swing looks great. It looks like he’s not missing anything. He’s able to turn on his back foot (with the injured toe) and it doesn’t look like it’s bothering him at all.”

Judge’s swing appears to be excellent, and, in the opinion of Yankees hitting coach Dillon Lawson, he doesn’t seem to be troubled by the injury. The precise date of his comeback to the lineup is yet unknown. The best-case scenario is that Judge will return some point during the second half of the season as the All-Star break draws near.

Then someone inquired about a return:

“Hopefully soon. We’ll see. You know we got the All-Star break coming up here so hopefully, that’ll buy me a couple days and I’ll be back out there soon.”

Since June 4, when he crashed into the fence to stop a few runs against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Judge has been out with a ruptured ligament in his toe.

Around the toe injury and a small hip issue earlier this year, Judge, 31, is hitting.291/.404/.674 with 19 home runs in 49 games. Despite losing so much time, he still has 2.4 WAR, which puts him in 15th place among outfielders.

New York’s stunning comeback victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Monday raised their record to 47-38. They are two games ahead of a wild-card place and nine games down in the AL East.

Harrison Bader : We talk a lot about the Yankees’ record without Aaron Judge. But here’s a different stat to consider this weekend:
The Yanks are 24-9 this season when Harrison Bader plays.
