Negotiations have been hampered in some way by the Brooklyn Nets’ desire to include Ben Simmons’ trade as a component of the agreement.
With the Heat needing to find a receptive third team in trade talks, the Nets stand out as an obvious candidate if they’re also able to offload Ben Simmons.

Greg Sylvander claims that the Nets want to deal for Simmons. Specifically, as an additional team in a potential Damian Lillard-focused trade involving the Miami Heat and Portland Trail Blazers. Other teams, though, are hesitant to sign the Melbourne-born star.
It will be difficult for the Nets to move Simmons because the three-time All-Star has played so little recently.

Due to a number of reasons, Simmons missed the whole 2021–22 season. During that time, he was transferred to Brooklyn as part of the transaction that sent James Harden to the Philadelphia 76ers.
The No. 1 overall choice in the 2016 NBA Draft made a comeback in the 2022–23 season, but injuries limited him to just 42 games for the Nets.

Simmons averaged just 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game while shooting 56.6 percent from the field during the 2022–23 season.
In the 2023–24 season and the 2024–25 season, he is owed roughly $38 million and more than $40 million, respectively. Paying that amount for a man who is prone to injuries and puts up subpar results when he is on the field is nearly hard to rationalize.

One of the worst contracts in the NBA is said to be Simmons’. The Heat may be motivated to accept Simmons’ contract in the trade if they are anxious to sign Damian Lillard.
