The No. 30-seeded 28-year-old Kyrgios was scheduled to play Belgian David Goffin in his opening round of the competition on Monday. Kyrgios fell to Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles final last year.

Kyrgios was unable to compete at the Australian Open due to a persistent left knee issue and subsequent surgery.

Kyrgios missed the Australian Open and French Open because of a persistent left knee issue that required surgery.

Hatzi accompanied Kyrgios in Germany last month at the ATP Stuttgart Open when he lost to Yibing Wu in the opening round and remained at his side during his recovery.

Hatzi expressed her admiration for Kyrgios at the time in a statement posted to her Instagram Story.

Kyrgios has been practicing on the Wimbledon practice courts before he withdrew from the tournament.

Prior to announcing his withdrawal on social media and disclosing the latest ailment, he had informed reporters that he was ready to play.

“I’m really sad to say that I have to withdraw from Wimbledon this year,” Kyrgios wrote. “I tried my hardest to be ready after my surgery and to be able to step on the Wimbledon courts again.

“During my comeback, I experienced some pain in my wrist during the week of Mallorca. As a precaution I had it scanned and it came back showing a torn ligament in my wrist. I tried everything to be able to play and I am disappointed to say that I just didn’t have enough time to manage it before Wimbledon — I’ll be back.”
