A “Handful” Of Suspensions Will Be Issued For NFL Gambling Rules Violations

Five players were suspended by the NFL for breaking the league’s gambling rules in April. Quintez Cephus of the Detroit Lions, C.J. Moore of the Washington Commanders, and Shaka Toney of the Lions are all now serving six-game suspensions, while Stanley Berryhill and Jameson Williams of the Lions are serving an indefinite suspension. When the 2023–24 season kicks off in the fall, their ban will start.

According to the NFL’s gambling policy, all team members, including players, are not allowed to wager on any NFL events at any time or on any other sports while on league property,  including team practice fields.

Ron Rivera, the head coach of the Commanders, asserts that clubs must ensure that players are aware of the rigorous gambling regulations in the NFL.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the NFL is looking into the Colts cornerback for engaging in “pervasive” sports betting. He is one of a “handful” of NFL players who will be suspended for the whole season.

“I want to take full responsibility for my actions,” Rodgers wrote in a social media post on June 6, after he was linked to the league’s inquiry.

“I know I have made mistakes and I am willing to do whatever it takes to repair the situation. The last thing I ever wanted to do was to be a distraction to the Colts organization, my coaches, and my teammates. I’ve let people down that I care about.

Rodgers, a 2020 sixth-round pick, is about to begin the last year of his rookie deal. He was anticipated to start at cornerback for the Colts this season in Stephon Gilmore’s absence.

“I made an error in judgement and I am going to work hard to make sure that those mistakes are rectified throughout the process. It’s an honor to play in the NFL and I have never taken that lightly. I am very sorry for all of this.”

When the identities of the remaining players will be revealed is unknown.
