The Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham said more than four months later that the field, not the Chiefs offensive line, was what stopped them.

In order to defeat the formidable Philadelphia Eagles defense and win Super Bowl 57, the Kansas City Chiefs were able to accomplish so. However, one Eagles player said Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were fortunate in the game.

The Eagles had the greatest defense in the NFL going into the title game, leading the season in yards allowed and having a league-high 78 sacks. In contrast, the Eagles failed to record a single sack as the Chiefs prevailed 38-35 in the Super Bowl.

Graham declines to give Kansas City all the credit for it and instead attributes part of their defensive issues on the playing surface.

Graham specifically thinks that if the field in Arizona wasn’t so slick, the Eagles would have had more sacks and pressures against Patrick Mahomes. The Eagles had a historically successful season pressing opposing quarterbacks, but they earned zero sacks against Mahomes.

In a recent interview for a Sports Take appearance, Graham had the following to say about the circumstance:

“You need that traction to be able to get off the block and we were slipping a lot. I don’t make excuses. I just know that, that’s what was being talked about, us trying to get out of our own head a little bit too. I’m telling you that O-line, they got blessed, I’ll say that.”

“I’m telling you that O-line, they got blessed, I’ll say that.”

He especially cited a memorable incident in which Josh Sweat of the Eagles’ defense stumbled while attempting to sack Mahomes on the opening drive. Graham claimed that the squad struggled to acquire traction to adequately disengage from blocks because of the slick surface during their defeat.

Football games, especially those with the same significance as the Super Bowl, frequently call for teams to react swiftly to evolving situations.

Graham acknowledged that although Philadelphia’s problems may be attributed to the field, Kansas City could have experienced the same problems and still won.

“Like I said, credit to Kansas City. It’s all love,” he said. “Them boys played too, they played on that surface too.”

The Eagles are determined to use the experience as a learning opportunity and demonstrate their skills in their forthcoming rematch against the Chiefs, despite the fact that they were unable to overcome the difficulties presented by the slick field in Super Bowl LVII.
