Skip Bayless’s Take On Spurs’ NBA Draft Pick Victor Wembanyama: “Coach Gregg Popovich isn’t going to like it”

The Popovich-Wembanyama partnership is expected to succeed, but FS1 commentator Skip Bayless has already prophesied that there will be a schism between them.

Skip Bayless’s Take On Spurs’ NBA Draft Pick Victor Wembanyama: “Coach Gregg Popovich isn’t going to like it”

With the selection of superstar prospect Victor Wembanyama with the first overall pick on Thursday night, the San Antonio Spurs made a decision that would forever change their franchise.

The pick of Wembanyama, who grew up idolizing the French basketball stars of the San Antonio dynasty teams, has been overwhelmingly seen as advantageous for both the Spurs and Wembanyama.

The Spurs are hoping that the 19-year-old, who is one of the most highly sought-after talents in a generation and stands 7 feet 4 inches tall, would develop into a dominant player in the NBA. When the Spurs won the NBA Draft Lottery last month, allowing them to sign Wembanyama, the team members were ecstatic, and the player himself was overjoyed.

Wembanyama recently expressed his enthusiasm to play for Coach Gregg Popovich after previously expressing his admiration for the team before being picked.

“Gregg Popovich isn’t going to like it that he’s now the second biggest star in San Antonio. He will soon make it tough on Wemby, break the kid down so he (Pop) can take credit for building him back up. Hope Wemby doesn’t go Kawhi on Pop and say, ‘Enough of this,’” Bayless wrote on Twitter.

Bayless’ perspective garnered criticism on Twitter. The claim that Popovich wants to be San Antonio’s “biggest star” is perplexing. This is the same coach who throughout the years has handled a number of superstars for the Spurs. Popovich is just interested about winning, and he was clearly thrilled to select Wembanyama.

2014 was the only time in Kawhi’s seven seasons with the Spurs that the team won the championship. Bayless, a fervent supporter of San Antonio, though, immediately despised Leonard for leaving the Spurs. However, the UNDISPUTED analyst accuses Coach Pop of driving the Klaw out of Texas in a recent tweet.

Along with being a successful NBA player, Popovich is infamous for his strict, traditional coaching approach, which is greatly inspired by his military training. While some players have found success with it, others have found it to be too much to manage.

Kawhi Leonard left the Spurs in the summer of 2018 after spending seven seasons playing under Coach Pop. Additionally, Noe Bayless predicts that Wembanyama will go shortly.

Due to his harsh and sometimes baseless criticism of a number of players, especially LeBron James, Skip Bayless has become well-known. Unfortunately, it appears that Wemby is already forecasting a civil war on the Texas side rather than expecting him to succeed for his favorite club.
