The New England Patriots were without two crucial players as mandatory minicamp began on Monday. It’s two separate causes, though.

During his pre-practice news conference on Monday, Bill Belichick confirmed that certain players did not report to minicamp, but he did not specifically name the guys.

“I don’t think everybody’s here,” Belichick said. “Working through a couple things.”

Players who fail to show up for minicamp may be fined. Missing the first formal practice would result in fines of $16,459, $32,920, and $49,374 the following days.

Mike Reiss of ESPN stated that Guy’s absence was due to a contract issue. In March 2021, the 33-year-old agreed to a four-year deal with the Patriots, which included a basic salary of $11.5 million. He will have a basic salary of $2 million in the next season. According to the most recent ESPN story, Guy, who has since switched agents, is requesting a modification to his contract.

Guy has started 91 of the 93 regular-season games he has played for the Patriots and has been a key member of the defense for the past six seasons.

Guy has been a member of the Patriots since 2017 and has established himself as a starter defensive lineman with a major role. He had a total of 46 tackles, two sacks, and five quarterback hits in his 14 games last season.

Trent Brown, the starting offensive lineman, missed minicamp on Monday due to travel-related concerns. A hailstorm that hit Texas forced him to cancel his travel to New England.

Trent Brown, who is renowned for his dominant build and superb pass-blocking abilities, participated in all 17 of the Patriots’ games last year and 26 total games played since joining the team in 2021.

With his contract with the team nearing its last year, Brown will get a basic salary of $4 million. Brown is anticipated to start at left tackle for the Patriots in 2023 as the offensive line attempts to recover from a 2022 campaign in which quarterback Mac Jones was sacked 34 times in 14 games.
